Thank you so much for your nice comments everyone. I'm glad you enjoyed the post. I really want my business to hold true to the value of what this article is about. One thing I learned as an artist in my early years, whenever I felt like a producer or engineer was just punching the clock with me, is that when you're working with other people on their music, it's not just a job you have to do, it's something that is directly connected to somebody's dream. I am thankful for everyone I work with and find it rewarding when they walk away with the sense that they and their music got the attention they needed.

Great article, Dave! How you expanded on your original idea that I read a few weeks back has bolstered your repuation for clear advice and honesty. The point you make is not about destroying dreams, but rather gently pursuading others to re-evaluate their business model and motives.
Excellent words, my friend. Thank you.

Great article Dave, and so very true. Whatever the final destination, the most exciting part of the journey is always the journey itself. Fame is fleeting and rarely all that you might expect it to be, and money is the aim of people who have few real dreams.Give me the excitement and the pleasure of the journey every time!

Well said Dave. It use to be if you were talented you could get a record deal and it didnt much matter your looks. But today Ive noticed major labels look for the "they have it all factor" which means look, and talent
Which is sad as there are MANY talented individuals that sing like an angel but may not be attractive enough. This stopped me from my career. Gaining weight singing backup and thyroid issues has been a struggle.. especially on the road singing and all those fast food restaurants and not being able to exercise. Before you know it youve gained alot of weight and the health issues....and suddenly also getting down on yourself and saying to yourself.. I will never make it just give up. The love of music is in my soul, and every fiber of my being. I know I use to say God why didnt you make me gorgeous.. but today Im ok. I still sing, and I found my joy in helping young talent. Its not an easy road as many have already been conditioned to be a bit spoiled and thinking they are the greatest singer that set foot in Nashville. But you learn to deal with them, and work with them. Their goal becomes yours. Conway Twitty told me when I first started "When you Lose your Dream you Die" I see what he meant, and take that advice with me today and share it with others though he passed away. What matters the most is YOU LOVE WHAT YOU DO, and who cares if your not gorgeous, or handsome.................. this is where REAL MUSIC , and REAL PEOPLE come in............and its there where you will find your peace
